Republic of Ireland secured a place in the Second Round of play-offs for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with victory in Slovakia.
The only goal of the game in the first half, Jess Ziu broke away to find Heather Payne, whose cutback was buried by Denise O’Sullivan.
Sweden beat Finland 5-0 in the other Group A game, first-half efforts from Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig setting up the clear victory.
The European play-offs for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be played on 6 and 11 October 2022, with the draw streamed live on uefa.com at 12:30pm on Friday 9 September.
