Regional League Round-Up

AFC Phoenix were the only change at the top of the Regional League divisions after results on 6 January but there were some notable cup upsets by the likes of Abingdon United, St Ives Town, Warrington Wolverines and Wycombe Wanderers.

EASTERN – St Ives land knockout blow on leaders

CUP 3RD ROUND – St Ives Town of Division 1 edged league leaders Acle United with an extra-time Tierney Coulson effort. AFC Dunstable had to come from behind to win 3-2 at Bowers & Pitsea, as Samaira Khan got a couple of their goals. Bedford beat Wymondham Town by the only goal,  Brentwood Town scored three at AFC Sudbury, Harlow Town’s Poppy Binding hit a hat-trick in their 4-0 result at Haringey Borough, likewise Katie Steward claimed in the second-half of Peterborough Northern Star 5-1 elimination of Royston Town, while Cambridge City dismissed Hutton 8-1.

PLATE QUARTER-FINALS – Histon got both goals of the game at Hatfield Peverel, Newmarket Town’s Abbi Griffin was at the double in a 4-1 victory at Hertford Town, Hoddesdon Town Owls’ five goals past King’s Lynn Town included two each for Kristina O’Connell and Natasha Crick, while Stevenage Reserves had a walkover against  Bishops Stortford.

EAST MIDLANDS – Ten in a row for Foxes

PREMIER – Leicester City WFC Development made it ten wins on the spin with a 2-0 result at Rise Park. The chasing pack all also won, Oughtibridge 5-0 at Eastwood, likewise Ollerton Town at Loughborough Students, while Peterborough United’s Hannah Pendred got two in the 3-1 victory at Mansfield Town.

1 NORTH – Boston United are 7 points clear following a 7-2 score over Ilkeston Town in which Toni McHamilton struck three times. Second-placed Lincoln Moorlands-Railway were held 4-4 at home by next-to-bottom Arnold Town, while Hykeham Town thrashed Calverton Miners Welfare 10-1 as Courtney Limb and Millie Seaton got three each.

1 SOUTH – Oadby & Wigston cut Northampton Town’s lead to three points as Samantha Hargrave registered three times in a 7-0 sinking of Corby Town, Notts County netted five against Thrapston Town.

LONDON & SOUTH EAST – Phoenix rise to top

PREMIER – AFC Phoenix went top with a 4-2 defeat of London Kent Football United aided by an Elizabeth Wicks brace and Whyteleafe are goal-difference behind them having got the sole goal at Eastbourne Town. Fulham’s 2-0 victory at Parkwood Rangers put them into sixth spot.

LEAGUE CUP – Kent Football United won Group A after an 8-0 scoreline at Aylesford that featured five goals for Amy Russ.

GREATER LONDON PREMIER – Godalming Town and Hackney gained some ground on the leaders, winning 3-1 at Victoire and 4-2 at Watford Development respectively, while Spurs Development defeated Regents Park Rangers 2-0.
JOHN GREENACRE MEMORIAL TROPHY 2ND RD – Division 2 South leaders Crystal Palace Development edged out top flight Colne Valley 4-3, New London Lionesses came through 3-0 at AFC Stoke Newington and Ashford Town walloped Wealdstone 15-0 with a third of the tally from Ashley Cheatley.

SOUTH EAST COUNTIES PREMIER – Crawley Wasps Reserves have a nine-point lead after a 4-1 victory at Newhaven, Lauren Callaghan with two of their goals. Saltdean United were 5-3 winners at battling basement side Meridian, Kally-Ann Westgarthcame off the bench to net in Phoenix Sports’ 2-1 result against Eastbourne LFC and Lewes Foundation shared four goals with Bexhill United.
LEAGUE CUP 2ND RD – Worthing went through 4-0 when hosting Division 1 East side Thamesview.

PREMIER – South Shields jumped two places to second with a 7-1 success at Castleford White Rose – who had Tiegan Richardson dismissed – as Hartlepool United were beaten 3-2 at Harrogate Town who went level on points with them with the help of Sophie Tinson’s double. York City were held 3-3 by Wallsend BC whose Cara Moran scored twice, allowing Farsley Celtic to go sixth with their 4-2 result over Rotherham United.

1 NORTH – Redcar Town’s eleventh straight win came despite being 2-0 down at Alnwick Town, Kenzie Parkes twice on target in a 3-2 result. Consett beat Cramlington United 2-0, Sunderland West End were 4-2 winners at Washington. Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves’ Louise Atkinson got three goals to pip Chester le Street Town St. Cuthberts 5-4 away, while Boro Rangers hit Prudhoe Town 6-1 with six different scorers.

1 SOUTH – Ossett United’s 4-0 victory at York RI was their eleventh in a row and Jenna Wraith scored twice for them. Altofts won by the odd goal in five at Wakefield and Sheffield Wednesday took the points 2-1 over Harrogate Railway.

NORTH WEST – Surprise cup win for Warrington

ARGYLE SPORTS CUP 2ND RD – One Premier Division side went out to Division 1 opponents as Manchester Stingers lost 2-1 at home to Warrington Wolverines. Chester scored the only goal at Division 1 North leaders Blackpool, Altrincham won on penalties after a 2-2 tie at Workington Reds, Curzon Ashton were 4-3 winners after extra-time at Carlisle United. There were 1-0 wins for Penrith at Stockport County Blues and Blackburn CSC at Morecambe Reserves. Highflyers Stockport County and Tranmere Rovers progressed 4-2 against Wigan Athletic and 3-0 past Wythenshawe Amateurs respectively, West Didsbury & Chorlton eliminated Liverpool Feds Reserves 2-0. Northwich Vixens were victorious 5-1 at City of Liverpool and other big margins saw Merseyrail hit Accrington for six, Mossley Hill finish 7-1 winners over Preston North End, Bury net nine past Penwortham Town, Sir Tom Finney thrash Leigh RMI 13-0, while FC United Of Manchester had a walkover against Burscough Dynamo.

SOUTHERN – Abingdon and Wycombe among cup shocks

ONE – Alton overtook Wokingham & Emmbrook to go sixth on goal-difference with a 3-1 win over them.

LEAGUE CUP QUARTER-FINALS – Abingdon United pulled off a surprise 2-0 win over Winchester City Flyers, as did Wycombe Wanderers when thumping New Milton Town 8-2, Tara Ashley Woodward with a five-goal haul and Chante Inniss the other three. Joint leaders Oxford City only just came through 4-3 at lower division Southampton WFC Development after being behind, helped by Danielle Anderson’s double. Southampton FC Ladies netted nine at Wargrave and five of those came from Chloe Newton.

CHAIRMAN’S CUP QUARTER-FINALS – Division 1 side Moneyfields knocked out top flight Woodley United 3-0,  Barton Rovers beat Newbury on penalties after the game finished goalless, while Warsash Wasps had a rare win 3-1 over Eastleigh with a Megan Fox hat-trick in a 34-minute spell.

SOUTH WEST – Downend denied first point in stoppage-time

PREMIER – Keynsham Town Development’s 2-1 win over Portishead put them 7 points clear, Ilminster Town had a good 2-1 result over third-placed Bishops Lydeard. Keri-Ann Moxom got two of Callington Town’s five at Forest Green Rovers, Downend Flyers almost got off the mark in the basement battle with Torquay United but Charlotte Dymond scored in added time. Marine Academy Plymouth had a walkover against Middlezoy.

1 EASTERN – Wootton Bassett Town held the leadership with Emily Arrell getting three of their four goals at Swindon Spitfires, Frampton Rangers kept up the chase with a Gabby Menghini goal at home to Cheltenham Town Development. Laverstock & Ford and Almondsbury tied 2-2, Oldland Abbotonians’ second success of the season came 2-1 against AEK Boco as Aisha Anderson came off the bench to score, while Trowbridge Town were awarded the match at Swindon Town Development.

1 WESTERN – Leaders Plymouth Argyle Reserves edged Alphington 4-3 as Gabi Alphous got on the scoresheet twice, Bideford came away from Pen Mill 2-1 victors, Plympton’s 6-1 scoreline against St Agnes included four for Shannon Workman. Bude Town are a point behind mid-table Feniton whom they beat 4-3 away with a Sarah Badham treble, Weston Mendip put five past Exeter & Tedburn Rangers of which Ellie Oritt scored two.

WEST MIDLANDS – Wilford wins it in added time for Solihull United

Solihull United side which won through to their divisional cup semi-finals.

PREMIER – Redditch United held leaders Sutton Coldfield Town 0-0, Leafield Athletic had a big 5-0 win over second-placed Coundon Court. Goldenhill Wanderers finished 2-2 with Crusaders, Stockingford AA Pavilion found the net five times against Worcester United, Coventry Sphinx scraped a 2-1 win at home to lowly Knowle.

1 NORTH CUP QUARTER-FINALS – AFC Telford United accounted for Florence by three goals to nil, Leek Town had a victory twice as big over Shrewsbury Town. Shifnal Town went through 4-0 at Port Vale and Stoke City Development also had a four-goal margin of victory, 7-3 over Wyrley.

1 SOUTH CUP QUARTER-FINALS – Two-goal Hayley Wilford struck in injury time as Solihull United progressed 2-1 at Stourbridge. Sedgley & Gornal United put away four at Droitwich Spa, Kidderminster Harriers five at Solihull Sporting, while Kingfisher knocked out Leamington 6-2.
