A veteran of over 100 caps for Iceland, Rakel Hönnudóttir is leaving Reading FC Women and returning to her own country to rejoin Breiðablik.

The forward signed for the Royals from Swedish side IF Limhamn Bunkeflo 07 back in January of this year.

Hönnudóttir played for Breiðablik between 2012 and 2017, scoring 46 goals in 103 appearances before making the switch to Sweden.

Hönnudóttir told readingfc.co.uk: “I would just like to thank everyone for the opportunity that I was given, and thanks to the girls for welcoming me to the club with open arms.”

In her 11 months with Kelly Chambers’ side, Hönnudóttir played 13 times, scoring 3 goals. Most recently, after a short injury, Hönnudóttir made an appearance for the Reading FC Women Academy, scoring 4 goals in the first half.
