Reading Women sign Icelandic striker

Reading have signed Icelandic international striker Rakel Honnudottir from Swedish side IF Limhamn Bunkeflo 07.

The Royals say Rakel scored an impressive 76 goals during 97 appearances, over 5 seasons for her former side.

She made her debut for Iceland in the 2008 Algarve Cup, represented her country at the UEFA Women’s Championship in 2009 and 2013, scoring a total of 7 goals for the national team. Continuing her career in her homeland, she joined Breidablik in 2012, where she went on to score 46 goals in 103 appearances.

Manager Kelly Chambers told reading.fawsl.com; “Rakel is a player we have been monitoring for some time now and are very happy to have a deal completed. Rakel has great attributes including her power, strength and a very good eye for goal with a variety of finishes.”

“Rakel is a player with a huge amount of international experience and I believe she will bring even more strength to my squad. I am looking forward to working with her alongside the team to push on in the second half of the season.”
