Arsenal’s defence of the FA Girls’ Youth Cup ended abruptly with a 3-0 1st Round home defeat by Reading, while both Manchester City and Shrewsbury Town progressed on penalties.

Two ties were decided in shoot-outs, as Manchester City beat Blackburn Rovers 4-2 after a goalless draw and Shrewsbury Town came through 5-4 at MK Dons following a 1-1 tie in which Sadie Craig got their goal.
Manchester United led 3-1 at Doncaster by the break and went on to record a 5-1 win, with braces by Holly Davenport and Tia Lisy, plus one from Rebecca May.
Although Stoke City’s Nuala Miszkie scored to get them back into the tie with West Brom, Albion added to their first-half goal to finish 2-1 victors.
Essex progressed to the 2nd Round with 4-0 win over Millwall, with a goal apiece from Emma Wallis, Olivia Bilson, Eloise King and Maddie Biggs.
Isobel Ford got the only goal of the game, as Sheffield United edged York City Foundation.
