Portugal beat ten-player Iceland 4-1 after extra-time but their FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification battle is to continue with inter-confederation play-offs.
Carole Costa gave Portugal a 55th-minute lead from the penalty spot, following a red card for Aslaug Gunnlaugsdottir.
Glodis Viggósdóttir replied before the hour mark to force extra-time, two minutes into which Diana Silva restored the advantage.
Tatiana Pinto then gave the Portuguese a two-goal cushion, before Francisca Nazareth’s stoppage-time effort.
The ten-team inter-confederation play-offs take place next February in New Zealand.
