Nigeria Retain African Title

It was the eighth success in ten such finals for the Super Falcons and a repeat of the 2014 victory over Cameroon.

Desire Oparanozie’s late effort was the difference between the finalists this time round. It was her fourth goal of the finals, with team-mate and Arsenal forward Asisat Oshoala leading the way with six.

Ghana finished third after edging South Africa in Friday’s play-off, in which defender Linda Eshun grabbed the only goal early in the second half.

It was the third time that the West Africans had finished third after 2000 and 2004, whilst the Banyana Banyana replicated their performance two years ago in Namibia.
