Newcastle United Women extend lead as Liverpool Feds hold Forest

Newcastle United opened a nine-point lead in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division with Nottingham Forest held by Liverpool Feds.

NORTHERN PREMIER DIVISION

Beth Lumsden and Paige Bailey-Gayle put Newcastle two up inside half an hour, Derby County pulling one back in the dying minutes with a Eleanor Ashton penalty.

Nottingham Forest have a game in hand on the leaders but had to settle for a draw at fourth-placed Liverpool Feds. Bethany Donoghue put Feds in front, Sophie Domingo got Forest back on level terms in the second half.

Portsmouth 7-0 Chatham Town (Att: 918)

Portsmouth sank next-to-bottom Chatham Town 7-0, with Sophie Quirk and Ava Rowbotham both scoring twice. The win put Pompey six points ahead of second-placed Hashtag United, with seven games left each.

Cardiff City Ladies jumped three places to seventh when defeating Cheltenham Town. Tianna Teisar’s opener was cancelled out by Una Lue but Ruby Scahill grabbed a 70th-minute winner.

AFC Sudbury 3-3 Chesham United

In a fixture reversed due to the weather, AFC Sudbury moved a point clear of the relegation zone when sharing six goals with Chesham United. Imogen Fisher made it 3-3 with her first goal for Sudbury, after Sophie Jeffery had twice given them the lead. Gemma Fraser scored twice for Chesham, Danielle Puddefoot got their first.
