Newcastle United Women win in front of nearly 5,000 at City Ground

Newcastle United edged Nottingham Forest 1-0 in front of almost 5,000 at the City Ground in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.

NORTHERN PREMIER DIVISION

Nottingham Forest 0-1 Newcastle United (Att: 4,955)

Kacie Elson’s goal just before the hour mark gave Newcastle United victory at the City Ground, moving them to within one point of top team Burnley.

DIVISION 1 MIDLANDS

Lincoln City 2-2 Leafield Athletic
Loughborough Lightning 2-1 Sutton Coldfield Town (Att: 87)

Loughborough Lightning opened up a four-point lead at the top with a 2-1 victory over Sutton Coldfield Town. Kathryn Pagan twice gave Leafield Athletic the lead at Lincoln but Toni McHamilton and Leah Hardy replied for City. Solihull Moors beat Leafield 3-1 in midweek.

Durham Cestria 0-2 Hull City (Att: 80)

Hope Knight got both goals as Hull City won at Durham Cestria to climb to second spot, three points behind leaders Barnsley WFC.

AFC Wimbledon 4-2 London Seaward (Att: 161)
Cambridge City 5-1 Haywards Heath Town (Att: 86)
Worthing 1-1 Norwich City

AFC Wimbledon’s 4-2 defeat of London Seaward lifted them six points clear at the top, fourth-placed Worthing drawing with second-in-the-table Norwich City. Cambridge City won the basement battle with Haywards Heath Town to move off the bottom, Jade Barrett bagging a brace in the 5-1 win.

Chorley progressed at North West League Wigan Athletic, aided by a Millie Fitzpatrick brace, to book a big home tie with Newcastle United in the 2nd Round next week.

Over 2,000 were at Home Park to see Plymouth Argyle hit double-figures against South West League Ilminster Town, Ellie Sara getting a five-goal haul. The Pilgrims against host regional league opposition in AFC Stoneham next Sunday.
