Motherwell Women reach Sky Sports Cup quarter-finals on penalties

Motherwell eventually defeated Hamilton Academical in the Sky Sports Cup, Glasgow City and Partick Thistle both won by the odd goal in five.

Glasgow City led at Hearts through Wilma Forsblom, Sade Adamolekun equalising but Samantha van Diemen and Eilidh Shore giving the visitors a two-goal cushion before Jackie Richards replied close to the end.

Partick also progressed 3-2, Carla Boyce, Cara Henderson (penalty) and Lucy Sinclair on target for Thistle, Spartans making for a tight finish with an 80th-minute goal.

Motherwell pipped SWPL 2 side Hamilton 4-3 on penalties, after Laura Berry levelled with the last kick to cancel out Megan Quinn’s opener for the Accies.

Dundee United kept Rangers at bay until the last 13 minutes, when Kirsty Howat broke the deadlock, followed by a Katie Wilkinson free kick and Mia McAulay tap-in.

Celtic sailed through 7-0 at Montrose, likewise Hibernian away to Queen’s Park where Kathleen McGovern hit a hat-trick.

Aberdeen saw off Gartcairn with a Hannah Stewart double, Boroughmuir banged eight past Livingston as Emily Reid notched a treble.

The quarter-final draw will be live on Sky Sports News this Tuesday afternoon.
