Montrose out of SWPL relegation play-off spot

Montrose climbed out of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League bottom two with a crucial three points against Dundee United.

Hibernian equalised against Glasgow City before going down 3-1, Hearts edging above their Edinburgh rivals after victory at Partick Thistle.

Abbie Larkin scored in the first minute for City and got her second five minutes after lead Eddie levelled. Kinga Kozak extended the advantage just before the hour mark, for third-placed City.

Hearts struck first through Katie Lockwood at Partick, whose Imogen Longcake made it 1-1, before Ciara Grant, Lockwood and Carly Girasoli netted to lift the Jambos goal-difference ahead of Hibs to fifth spot.

Rangers remain top by a point from Celtic, putting five past Motherwell while the Hoops hit seven against Spartans. Libby Bance got the Gers’ first, Sarah Ewens added a double, Jane Ross marked her return by scoring with her first touch, Rio Hardy scoring a late fifth. Spartans held out for 50 minutes against Celtic, whose Caitlin Hayes scored twice with one each by Amy Gallacher, Jenny Smith, Clare Goldie, Celya Barclais and Murphy Agnew.

Montrose moved out of the relegation play-off spot by coming from 2-1 down to defeat Dundee United. Demi Taylor equalised and Jade McLaren netted a 90th-minute winner when following up her effort against the crossbar.

Winless Hamilton’s third point cane in a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen. Chloe Gover buried a free kick for the Dons, Josephine Giard replied before Accies’ Megan Quinn was sent off.

Gartcairn 1-2 Livingston
St Johnstone 0-1 Glasgow Women
Stirling University 1-5 Boroughmuir Thistle
Queen’s Park 1-0 Kilmarnock

Queen’s Park edged Kilmarnock in the top of the table clash to open up a ten-point lead. Monica Harty got the goal but the Spiders had to survive having Megan Quigley dismissed on the hour.

Livingston’s narrow 2-1 victory at struggling Gartcairn pulled them level on points with Kilmarnock, Beth McKay’s second direct from a corner proving decisive.

Olivia King struck to give Glasgow Women the points at St Johnstone, Beth MacLeod and Abbi Verghese got a couple each as Boroughmuir won at Stieling University.
