Wales international Mayzee Davies is the latest academy graduate to sign a first professional contract with Manchester City.
The defender will continue to wear the number 53 shirt.
In an interview with the club website, the 19-year-old described her style of play as “a ball-playing centre back, because that’s the way I was taught to play, through from when I was ten – keep the ball on the floor, play passes through the lines” – and said that City team-mate and Lioness Alex Greenwood is her role model.
“She plays how I want to play eventually!” explained Davies.
And she reflected on her progress through the club’s academy, saying: “I joined when I was ten. I learned the ‘City Way’ growing up and every year the more and more we went on the club felt like home.
“It still feels like that now and I’ve learned so much and I’m so grateful for all the academy staff I’ve worked with to help me get to this point. I’m just so happy to be here now.”
Mayzee Davies: It’s a really proud moment
Of her new professional contract, Davies said: “It’s one of the biggest clubs out there and I think it makes it extra special coming through the academy.
“I’ve grown up here, it’s made me the player I am today so it’s a really proud moment.”
She also thanked her family for their support.
“They don’t realise how much they’ve done for me – I don’t really tell them enough either. They’ve been a massive part of my journey.
“It wasn’t just me putting the commitment in, it was also them, and I’m really grateful.”
Mayzee Davies’s career path so far
Davies featured in City’s matchday squads throughout the 2024-25 season, although she has not yet made her competitive senior debut. She was a strong contender for a place in Rhian Wilkinson’s Cymru squad for the summer’s European Championships before rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament in a UEFA Nations League match against Denmark in June 2025.
Director of football Therese Sjogran said in a statement: “We’re pleased to offer Mayzee her first professional contract at Manchester City.
“She’s a highly-rated member of the squad, who showed a fantastic attitude during her time with the first team last season.
“Her approach to recovery has also been first class and, while it’s a long road ahead, we’re excited for her to come back even better than before.”
