Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-1 to go top of FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup Group B with one round of games to go.

Marc Skinner’s side got off to a flying start, as Lucia Garcia scored with little more than a minute played and Lisa Naalsund doubled the lead in the 20th minute.

Some untidy play between keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce and Katie Zelem five minutes later was taken advantage of by Aileen Whelan, who chipped the ball home from outside the box to halve the deficit.

Leicester could have been level before the break but Missy Goodwin’s strike was turned round the post by Tullis-Joyce, the keeper then pouncing on the ball from the resulting corner.

Zelem restored the two-goal cushion with a 65th-minute penalty after Geyse was brought down, while a second spot-kick from the United captain hit the crossbar and was cleared.

The Reds lead the table by two points from Manchester City, whom they visit in January for the group decider.
