Rebecca Welch is to become the first female referee in the Premier League after being appointed to take charge of Fulham versus Burnley on Saturday 23 December.

The Durham official was the first woman to referee a match in the Football League in 2021, with history similarly made by her in the Championship and FA Cup (3rd Round).

Welch recently made another first as a female fourth official in the Premier League, as Fulham faced Manchester United.

A high-profile official in women’s football and regular in the WSL, she has refereed in two FA Cup finals, was added to UEFA’s elite women’s officials list and featured at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

FAWNL strategy has met several targets just one year into being implemented
