Manchester City have signed teenage midfielder Tyler Toland from Irish Premiership title-chasers Sion Swifts.
The 18-year-old was nominated for the senior women’s international player of the year at the FAI awards back in March and missed out on a possible World Cup place with Republic of Ireland – for whom she has played since the age of 16 – when her national team were pipped by Norway to a slot in France.
She told mancitycom: “I’m very excited. Since I was four or five my dream was to become a professional footballer and now it’s a reality.”
Toland has linked up with fellow Ireland international Megan Campbell, saying: “I’ve spoken to (Megan) for a couple of months, she was buzzing when she found out (I had signed).”
She added: “I’m going to work hard… and hopefully help the team as much as I can, If the game time comes then it comes… hopefully (we can) lift a trophy at the end of the season.”
