Australian U-23 international midfielder Mackenzie Hawkesby has rejoined her former club Sydney FC from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Hawkesby signed for the Seagulls last summer but only made one appearance, in a 3-0 Continental Cup win at Birmingham City in October.

Head coach Melissa Phillips told brightonandhovealbion.com: “Mackenzie has been very good to work with since joining us in the summer, but she has struggled to establish herself in the team.

“It’s an opportunity for Mackenzie to return to Sydney and play at the club she helped win the A-League title earlier this year, so we felt this move was right for all parties.”

Meanwhile, former Brighton captain Dani Bowman is back at the club as assistant coach to the Women’s U-19 team, having had a spell coaching at West Ham.
