London City Lionesses have signed goalkeeper Sophie Hillyerd on a two-year contract following her departure from West Ham United.

The 20-year-old has also appeared for Bristol City, Manchester United and Charlton Athletic, while being capped by England at Under-19 level.

Hillyerd told londoncitylionesses.com“I spoke to Ron[ald Thompson], the head of recruitment, and he gave a really warm vibe about the place.

“He showed me the new facility at K Sports [Cobdown] and it demonstrates that the club has real ambition to push on. I know Hermione [Cull] from a few years back and I really enjoyed working with her in my first training session here.”

Assistant Coach Nicola Williams added: “Sophie is a young, enthusiastic and tall goalkeeper who is very confident, commands her area, and is difficult to beat.

“She is very vocal on the field, which makes her the kind of goalkeeper you want behind your squad, stopping goals from going in.”
