Liverpool Women have completed their first summer signing in 20-year-old midfielder Kirsty Maclean from Rangers.
So far this summer there has been more news about departures and potential outgoings from the Women’s Super League club.
The latest of which is Olivia Smith, who is closing in on a move to Arsenal where she would become the first £1m player in the history of women’s football.
“I’m really looking forward to it. I’m really excited to get going in pre-season and to meet all the girls, and hopefully we can start the season well,” Maclean said about joining Liverpool.
“I think the club speaks for itself. It’s obviously a massive club with a lot of history and to be able to represent the badge is a really proud moment for me.”
“Obviously I was at Rangers for 11 years and I loved my time there but I felt like it was the right time for a new challenge and to take the next step into the WSL, so I’m really looking forward to it,” added Maclean.

Who is new Liverpool Women signing Kirsty Maclean?
New Liverpool signing Kirsty Maclean is a 20-year-old Scottish midfielder who joins the Merseyside club from Rangers.
She is a player of high potential having made her debut in the Rangers senior team as a 16-year-old in 2021-22.
Maclean established herself in the team in the following season and earned a nomination for the PFA Scotland Women’s Young Player of the Year.
In 2023-24, she was nominated for the same award, as well as the Players’ Player of the Year award.
She helped Rangers win the Scottish league title, two Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups.
Maclean made her senior international debut in June 2023, and has gone on to make nine further appearances since.
Which players have Liverpool lost this summer?
Liverpool fans will be hoping that Maclean is just the first of several signings in a summer which until now has been more focused around outgoings.
Taylor Hinds rejoined Arsenal this month following the expiration of her contract at Liverpool.
Yana Daniels, Niamh Fahey, Jasmine Matthews and Teagan Micah also left the club at the end of their contracts.
The biggest news could be yet to come after reports last week that Liverpool agreed a £1m offer for Arsenal to sign Olivia Smith.
Should Smith make the move, she will become the first player in women’s football history to sell for £1m.
The current record for the most expensive signing is Naomi Girma, who joined Chelsea from San Diego Wave for £883,000 in January.
