Liverpool edged West Ham United with a Courtney Sweetman-Kirk goal at Prenton Park on Monday evening, to join the seventh-placed Hammers on sixteen points.

Sweetman-Kirk had been denied by ‘keeper Anna Moorhouse twice in the first half, while Brianna Visalli had a 20-yard strike saved by Anke Preuss.

The closest to a goal in the first half was a Laura Coombs effort for Liverpool which came down off the crossbar and was judged to have not crossed the line.

However, the hosts were ahead just 4 minutes after the restart when Sophie Bradley-Auckland fed Coombs to cross for Sweetman-Kirk to fire home.

Bradley-Auckland twice thwarted attempts by Jane Ross to equalise and Preuss took off to keep a Leanne Kiernan strike from finding the top corner and also dealt with a curler from Alisha Lehmann.
