The winner of the inaugural Golden Ball Award in partnership with Mitre as top scorer in the 2021-22 Vitality Women’s FA Cup competition was Liskeard Athletic’s Chloe Williams.
Awards were presented for competition top scorers at both the men’s and women’s FA Cup Finals, Williams winning hers with 12 goals in four games for South West League side Liskeard, including a remarkable seven in a single tie.
Invited to Wembley Stadium connected by EE as a guest of The FA to carry out the match ball, Williams received her award from Faye White, who was a winner of the competition on nine occasions with Arsenal.
The FA’s Director of Professional Game Relations, Andy Ambler, said: “The Emirates FA Cup and Vitality Women’s FA Cup give clubs and players across the pyramid the chance to test themselves and take on the very best. I’m delighted that we were able to introduce a top scorer award across historic seasons for both competitions. In Chloe and [Adam Boyes], we have two worthy winners and in beating off some of the biggest names in football to claim their prize they’ve showcased exactly what makes these competitions so special.”
Baroness Sue Campbell, The FA’s Director of Women’s Football, added: “In what was an incredible weekend of football, featuring teams at the very pinnacle of our sport, we were thrilled that two top players from the lower leagues could have their thoroughly deserved moment in the spotlight. Hopefully this day will live long in their memories and inspire players at every level to believe that anything is possible.”
