Lisa Swanson has been voted Scottish Building Society SWPL Player of the Month for September 2018. The FC Kilmarnock forward claimed over 50% of the vote, with just shy of 2,500 total votes cast.
It was a fantastic month for Swanson, scoring three goals in three games as FC Kilmarnock went unbeaten in September. This included a 4-0 defeat of Aberdeen, where Lisa scored twice, a dramatic 4-5 win away to Hearts, and a goalless draw in the final game of the month at home to Glasgow Girls.
Speaking from Rugby Park, Lisa said: “It’s a huge honour to win this award. I feel like I’ve been playing really well since I joined on loan and I’m glad that has been recognised this month.”
Swanson is currently on loan to FC Kilmarnock from Rangers WFC, having joined over the summer break. Since July, she’s scored seven and got five assists to her name.
It’s a move that has helped FC Kilmarnock secure runners-up spot in Scottish Building Society SWPL 2, a strong showing from one of the newly promoted sides.
“I’m delighted to have played a part in FC Kilmarnock’s season. There was already a fantastic squad here and hopefully my coaches and teammates feel I’ve been able to add to that.
“I would like to thank FC Kilmarnock for the opportunity they’ve given me here. I’m playing with confidence and that comes from regular minutes and getting goals.”
Derek Christie, Business Development Manager for Scottish Building Society, said: “Congratulations to Lisa and FC Kilmarnock. It was a great month for both and from looking at the voting, Lisa was a very popular choice.”
Also nominated for the September award was Abi Harrison (Hibernian), Chloe Docherty (Glasgow Girls), and Lori Gardner (Hamilton Academical).
“I’d like to say well done to all four nominees” said Derek. “It was a very competitive month, reflected in both the Scottish Building Society SWPL 1 & 2 tables and matches.
“It has been an amazing season and that’s testament to the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and all those involved in the women’s game.”
