England did not make the best of start against Denmark at Walsall but battled through to record a 2-0 victory.

Jill Scott sent Ellen White away and she lifted the ball over the on-rushing keeper but wide of the empty net.

Moments after a questionable handball decision denied Signe Bruun the opener for the Danes, Nikita Parris scored at the other end when a free kick fell to her just inside the area.

With almost an hour played, England again responded to their goal being under threat by hitting the back of the visitors’ net, Scott with a firm header off a Beth Mead cross.

Games elsewhere featured another clean sheet for Canada and Thailand forcing France to be patient.

France took an hour to break down Thailand in Orléans, Elise Bussaglia breaking the deadlock and Kadidiatou Diani coming off the bench to bag a brace in the last dozen minutes for a 3-0 result.

Spain hosted Canada in Logroño on Friday but a game of few chances ended goalless, the visitors now having only conceded once in eight games.

Argentina earlier defeated Uruguay 3-1 in Ls Punta, Florencia Bonsegundo, Soledad Jaimes and a penalty by substitute Maria Potassa sealing victory before María Viana got a late consolation.

New Zealand finished 2-1 winners over Mexico in Hannover, Rosie White converting from the spot on her 101st cap, Sarah Gregorius doubling the advantage before Lizbeth Ovalle replied to set up a tense finish.
