Leicester announce new contracts for nine players with seven others leaving the Foxes

Leicester City Women have confirmed that nine players have signed new contracts, as they also confirmed the names of seven others who have departed the club this summer.

Foxes captain Janice Cayman leads the nine players who have signed new contract extensions with the Foxes.

The club is hoping for an improved season after finishing tenth in the Women’s Super League last season.

They will go into the new season without long-serving defender Sophie Howard, who leaves the club after five years.

The 31-year-old made 122 appearances for Leicester and was part of the side that helped them get promoted back to the WSL in 2021.

She is one of seven players that Leicester confirmed have left the club this summer. That list includes Yuka Momiki, who recently signed for Everton.

In their statement on Thursday, Leicester confirmed that negotiations are on-going with a number of other first team players over potential new contracts.

Belgium star Janice Cayman is the big-name to sign a new deal with Leicester.

The two-time former Champions League winner is joined by first-team regulars Janina Leitzig and Missy Goodwin to sign new deals.

Julie Thibaud, Sam Tierney, Hannah Cain, and Shannon O’Brien are other first-team players to have agreed fresh terms.

The Foxes also agreed new deals for academy prospects Simone Sherwood and Nelly Las.

Which players have left Leicester City this summer?

Leicester have confirmed seven players who have left the club following the expiration of their contracts.

That list is headlined by Sophie Howard who spent five years at the club, and helped establish their standing in the WSL.

Japanese internationals Saori Takarada and Yuka Momiki have joined Cerezo Osaka Sakai and Everton respectively.

German striker Lena Petermann has joined Werder Bremen, while CJ Bott, Courtney Nevin and Deanne Rosa have also left the club.

Leicester appoint new director for women’s team

On top of the player news, Leicester City have also confirmed the appointment of a Director of Women’s and Girls’ Football.

Lee Billiard joins the club having most recently served as Head of Women’s Football at Aston Villa.

He also previously held roles with Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and several years in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States.
