Katie Robinson could return to former club in shock move from Aston Villa

Former Lioness Katie Robinson is reportedly seeking a move back to her former club Bristol City, shortly after terminating her loan with Everton.

Robinson plays for Aston Villa but has spent the first half of this season on loan to Everton.

Katie Robinson set for Bristol City return?

It has been reported that Katie Robinson is in the closing stages of agreeing a move to Bristol City.

The winger spent two years with the Robins at the beginning of her career. It was Bristol City who gave the 22-year-old her first chance in football, as she made her way through the academy before making her WSL debut in 2018.

Robinson left Bristol for Brighton in 2020 where she earned her first professional contract.

The Lioness earned her first England call-up while on the south coast. The former Seagull has five international caps to her name so far, but hasn’t featured in any major tournaments.

After four years with Brighton, Robinson played on loan with Charlton in the Championship before returning to the WSL with Aston Villa in 2024.

The pacy forward was loaned out by Villa at the beginning of this season but her loan was cut short in January with Villa recalling their star.

Bristol City are making their intent clear with a move for Robinson. The WSL2 side are currently third in the league and they will be pushing hard for promotion in the second half of this season.

With the WSL expanding this season, there are more chances of promotion. Instead of just the one team going up this year, there will be three sides promoted.

The top two teams will automatically enter the WSL next season, with third playing a playoff against bottom in the top-flight for the final spot.

Is the title out of grasp for Bristol City?

Although they are in a title race, finishing top may be out of grasp for Bristol City.

The WSL2 side are currently eight points adrift of Charlton as they come out of the winter break.

There is 11 games left to play in this season however and there is still everything to play for.

With that being said, the club would be happy finishing second with automatic promotion handed to the top two teams.

Bristol City are just three points behind Birmingham City in third, but they are also tied on points with Newcastle.

Signing Katie Robinson is a statement of intent from the Robins. Robinson will bring valued Championship experience to an already lethal attack.
