Northern Ireland edged Romania 1-0 at Windsor Park in the UEFA Women’s Nations League, as Kascie Weir opened her international account.

The goal came in only the eighth minute, after Brenna McPartlan’s pinpoint pass found Keri Halliday and her cross was turned home by teenager Weir.

Northern Ireland twice just managed to stay in front approaching half time, Ellie Mason clearing a Florentina Olar strike off the line with Jackie Burns on the deck after punching a free kick, the keeper then pushing over another effort by Olar.

After the restart, Rebecca McKenna saw her goal-bound shot blocked and then Mason had an effort turned behind goalkeeper Andreea Paraluta.

Burns saved from Cristina Carp, then at the other end Connie Scofield’s powerful shot was stopped by Paraluta.

Mihaela Ciolacu had a stoppage-time opportunity to equalise when getting in behind but was denied by Burns.
