In the Champions League Group 4 qualifiers in Belfast, hosts Linfield lost 1-0 to PK-35 Vantaa, while Shelbourne held Medyk Konin 0-0 despite a sending off.
Linfield were beaten by a first-half goal from the Finnish side’s Kaisa Collin at Seaview.
A club spokesperson commented: ‘To lose 1-0 with a scrappy goal just before half time was very frustrating. A very professional display from the girls tonight, who should be proud of their performance. ‘
Republic of Ireland’s Shelbourne and their Polish opponents kept the referee busy even though there was a lack of goals. Eight cards were shown, including a straight red for Seana Cooke 6 minutes from time.
Roma McLaughlin went close for Shelbourne when set up by Gloria Douglas but Konin goalkeeper Emily Dolan made the save.
After the late dismissal for handball, Kystyna Sikora blasted the penalty over the top.
In Friday’s fixtures, Linfield meet Medyk in the afternoon and Shelbourne play PK-35 in the evening.
