West Ham United Women have signed defender Filippa Wallén from Swedish club IF Brommapojkarna.

“I’m really happy to join West Ham,” Wallén told whufc.com. “It means a lot to be here. This is a really big step for me, and I think it will be a huge move for my development.

“Of course, West Ham play in the Women’s Super League, which is one of the biggest leagues in the world, and West Ham is such a big club. Everyone has heard of West Ham and I’ve heard so many good things about this club. I can’t wait to get going.”

Head coach Matt Beard has backed the full-back to reach her potential with the Irons.

“Filippa is a talented and pacey full-back who has already shown her quality, despite her young age, in Swedish football,” Beard said.

The left-back signed for IF Brommapojkarna in 2017 and played in 21 of the team’s 22 league matches during the 2018 campaign.

With 25 competitive matches in all competitions in 2019 for the club, Wallén has also played for Sweden U-17s.

Meanwhile, Brooke Hendrix has completed a transfer to NWSL side Washington Spirit, the centre-back returning to the USA after 18 months and 35 appearances for the Hammers.
