The first round of group games at the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup is complete with the USA beginning with a big win over hosts India.
The USA thrashed India 8-0 in front of over 4,000, Melina Rebimbas bagging a brace among seven different scorers. The other Group A game saw Brazil beat Morocco by a single goal, scored just five minutes in by Jhonson.
Chile were 3-1 winners over New Zealand in Group B, sealing the points midway through the second-half after Football Ferns had pulled a goal back. Germany had to come from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1, Mara Alber netting the decider.
In Group C China banked three points watched by over 8,000, doubling their lead on 90 minutes before Mexico replied in added time. Spain got the only goal of the meeting with Colombia five minutes from time, through Jone Amezaga.
Japan started with a 4-0 defeat of Tanzania in Group D, scoring three times in a 15-minute second-half spell. Annabelle Chukwu gave Canada the breakthrough midway into the second half but France equalised six minutes later with a Lucie Calba effort to finish one apiece.
The second round of group games starts today (Friday 14 october) at noon UK time, with games live on FIFA+.
