Japan beat Canada 4-0 to book a place in the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup quarter-finals, while Tanzania defeated France.

Mao Kubota and Uno Shiragaki gave Japan a 2-0 interval advantage, Mamoko Tanikawa got the third early in the second half and Mio Takaoka added one in stoppage-time.

Also in Group D, Tanzania pulled off a victory over France, Diana Mnally putting them ahead and Christer Bahera doubling the lead from a 60th-minute penalty, before Lucie Calba replied from the spot.

Linda Caicedo struck twice in the first 23 minutes as Colombia beat China 2-0 in Group C, in front of the tournament’s top attendance to date of 10,417.

All four teams in the group have three points after Mexico beat Spain 2-1. Judit Pujols had cancelled out the opener from Maribel Flores but Montserrat Saldivar restored the lead with five minutes to go.
