The final three contenders for The Best FIFA Women’s Player & Women’s Coach were revealed at lunchtime today.
Following voting – split evenly between fans, journalists, national team coaches and national team captains – the original shortlists of ten, selected by a panel of FIFA Legends, for each award, has been slimmed down to just three in each category.
There was again some frustration in England that particularly Emma Hayes was not in the with a shout of winning the coach of the year award, while social media had a mini meltdown about the players selected (or more specifically, the player NOT selected – namely 2018 UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Pernille Harder and Aussie scoring sensation Sam Kerr).
Two of the six contenders will be stepping up on 24 September to receive their prestigious awards. We’ll find out in London which player and which coach that is.
