#FAWSL / #FAWC: Cuthbert & Wiltshire win January POTM awards

Erin Cuthbert celebrates a winning goal with Jonna Andersson.

Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert has been announced as the FAWSL Player of the Month for January, while the FA Women’s Championship award went to Tottenham Hotspur’s Sarah Wiltshire.

Surely the highlight of the month for Cuthbert was scoring both goals as Chelsea won 2-0 away to Arsenal in a crucial clash in the title race.

But the Scotland international’s joy at such recognition will have been tempered somewhat by last night’s Conti Cup exit, as fellow nominee Nikita Parris scored twice for Manchester City.

Liverpool’s Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Lucy Graham of Bristol City were the two other players short-listed for the top flight honour.

Spurs won all three games in January with Sarah Wiltshire scoring two of them. She saw off competition from team-mate Rianna Dean, plus Zoe Ness of Durham and Millwall’s Evie Clarke to claim the FAWC award.

The striker told the Spurs’ website: “I’m really happy to win this award and of course I’m thankful to everyone who voted for me. I’m thrilled with how the team performed in January – we had some excellent results and I couldn’t have won this award without my team-mates. They all deserve recognition.”
