Coventry United rescued a point at Cardiff City Ladies with a stoppage-time penalty, while Newcastle United were 2-1 winners away at Bolton Wanderers.
Late goals leave Cardiff and Coventry level
In the Southern Division on Thursday evening, Cardiff City Ladies held Coventry United to a 2-2 tie but might have taken all three points.
City’s Estelle Randall denied Alison Hall when through one on one and Cori Williams hit the post with a free kick for the home side.
Hall did head Coventry in front from a corner for an interval lead but that was cancelled out by the hour mark, as Cori Williams nodded home via a Laura Williams set piece.
There was late drama when Ella Powell put City in front only for the visitors to be awarded a 95th minute penalty for a challenge on Amber Hughes, which was converted by Natalie Haigh.
Although frustrating for the Welsh side, they are now five points above danger in tenth but the point did not really help Coventry’s hopes of catching the three title-contenders.
Newcastle up three
Newcastle United jumped three places to eighth in Northern Division 1 with a good 2-1 win at fifth-placed Bolton Wanderers.
Goals were exchanged in the first 25 minutes, with Siobhan Jones on target for United.
A Jessie Allison effort later gave the visitors all three points.
