#FAWNL: Portsmouth Women win dockyard derby after Khassal nets four

The FA Women’s National League’s #BIGKICKOFF21 featured a late penalty save by Huddersfield Town’s Bethan Davies and four goals from Portsmouth’s Cherelle Khassal.

Nottingham Forest were held 0-0 by Huddersfield whose Bethan Davies saved a late penalty. Derby came from 2-1 down to win at Brighouse with Precious Hamilton hitting the winner. Fylde put four past West Brom, with Jodie Redgrave bagging a brace.
Ella Powell earned Loughborough a point with a stoppage-time leveller in the 2-2 tie with Hull, Wolves were 2-0 winners over Middlesbrough, Jamila Palmer’s opener added to by Anna Morphet’s late spot-kick, Burnley ran out 4-0 winners at Sheffield FC, where Evie Priestley was on target on twice.

Although Plymouth put away a second-half equaliser, Portsmouth’s Cherelle Khassal struck four times in the last 20 minutes or so for a 5-1 score-line. Southampton saw off MK Dons 3-1, with the visitors getting a consolation from the spot. Crawley claimed the points against Cardiff, Naomi Cole with a couple including a penalty, Nikita Whinnett with the other and an assist.

Bridgwater beat Chichester & Selsey 4-0, Leah Burridge getting the third on half-time with a spectacular long-range effort. Ipswich hit hosts Hounslow for six, Natasha Thomas taking advantage to take her all-time tally for the Tractor Girls into three figures. Keynsham’s Kerry Bartlett and Kerry Walklett found the net in a 2-0 defeat of London Bees, Oxford beat Gillingham by a similar score as Sarah King and Riva Casley it the target.

Boldmere banged in eight at Bedworth United, Solihull matched that against newcomers Leek, Long Eaton settled for half that in defeating Leafield. Doncaster won with a Hannah McWilliams’ header at Burton, Lincoln’s Leah Hardy got the deciding goal in the 2-1 result at Sporting Khalsa.

Newcastle stung debutants FC United 6-0, six goals were shared as Alnwick were denied victory in their first game at this level by  Chester le Street’s Annece Legg with two minutes left. Norton’s Lily Patrick scored twice in a five-minute spell to set up a 2-1 win at Barnsley, Chorley enjoyed a similar outcome at Bradford. Leeds edged Stockport 1-0 with a dramatic late Kirstie Hunt effort, Liverpool Feds went one better when facing Durham Cestria.

Actonians’ Roschelle Shakes got the only goal to beat Cambridge United, Wimbledon got the better of KFU 2-1. Hashtag United came through 3-1 at Cambridge City despite a late red card, Gemma Abela earlier netting twice. London Seaward led at Enfield through Abbey Dell’s goal but Alana Munro replied on her league debut for a 1-1 result. Billericay stormed to an 8-0 win at Norwich, promoted QPR put six past Stevenage.

Bournemouth were set for a league debut victory at Swindon until Sophie Mitchell’s 90th-minute strike. Three 3-1 away wins in the came for Larkhall at Buckland, Southampton WFC at Cheltenham and Maidenhead at Portishead, while Exeter sank Poole 6-1.
