Chester le Street Town climbed to third place in the FAWNL Northern Division 1 with a 2-1 victory at Norton & Stockton Ancients on Tuesday evening.
The Cestrians’ title dream had suffered a couple of blows already this year with defeats against the top two sides (Burnley and Barnsley), so it had been important to get back to winning ways and they did just that in front of a crowd of 150 at eighth-placed Norton.
Nichole Havery got both their goals, scoring midway through the first half and then a dozen minutes from the end, while Courtney Corrie was on target for the hosts.
The result puts Chester le Street a point behind Barnsley with a game in hand but still nine points short of leaders Burnley.
