England World Cup squad 2027 power rankings: Who will be on the plane to Brazil?

England win Euro 2025. Lionesses party London
The Lionesses celebrating their Euro 2025 triumph

England have been unstoppable in the past two European Championships but a World Cup continues to elude the nation – see here for our 2027 squad power rankings.

Although there are two years until the next major international tournament, we are counting down the top candidates in each position who could be on the plane to Brazil.

Possible England squad for 2027 World Cup

England World Cup Goalkeepers

Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating at Euro 2025

England will take three goalkeepers to the 2027 World Cup and there is no doubt that Hannah Hampton will be leading the way. Hampton has been exceptional for both club and country in the past two years and she was awarded the first-ever Yashin Award this summer after England’s Euro 2025 success.

The Chelsea goalkeeper is likely to start for the Lionesses and she could be joined by a pair of future stars. Manchester City’s Khiara Keating is starting to make a name for herself in the WSL at just 21-years-old. Despite not being capped yet for the Lionesses, Keating shadowed Hampton at the Euros and gained some valuable experience behind the nation’s number one.

With 30-year-old Anna Moorhouse likely to be out of the international picture by 2027, there could be a chance taken on Aston Villa’s Ellie Roebuck. The 26-year-old has 11 senior caps for England and was part of the Euro 2022 winning squad but hasn’t played since 2023.

England World Cup Defenders

Lucy Bronze and Leah Williamson could be playing their last tournament for England at the World Cup

Leah Williamson has been captain of England since 2021 and the Arsenal defender has been at the heart of everything good the Lionesses have done in recent years. Williamson will no doubt keep her place in the 2027 World Cup team barring injuries, but she could line up alongside any number of centre-backs. The 28-year-old has started this season on the sideline with an injury, but she is usually reliable and it would be a surprise if she was to miss the World Cup.

Maya Le Tissier has been left out in Sarina Wiegman’s England team of late but it is hard to see the Lionesses lining up without Manchester United’s captain. Le Tissier has become one of the most consistent WSL stars at just 22-years old and could one day captain the Lionesses.

Esme Morgan, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Jess Carter are all youngsters who played minor roles at Euro 2025 and with some valuable experience before 2027, all three could be challenging for a spot in the England World Cup squad.

Chelsea’s Millie Bright missed out on Euro 2025 for mental and physical reasons, but has since confirmed her interest in returning to the squad. However the 32-year-old could be on her way towards retirement when the World Cup rolls round and she isn’t the only one. Lucy Bronze has been a part of the England setup for 12 years now and the 2027 World Cup may be the serial winner’s last ride with the Lionesses – but she could keep her place at right back for one final tournament.

Both Bright and Bronze will be 35 when the World Cup gets underway. With plenty of youngsters starting to break into the team, there is a chance that the experienced superstars could be omitted from the squad.

Another older star who may travel with England but not start is Alex Greenwood. The Manchester City captain has become an essential part of England’s setup with 105 senior caps for her country. Greenwood’s versatility on the left and middle of defence has made her invaluable during Wiegman’s reign.

England World Cup Midfielders

Jess Park and Grace Clinton have had breakout years for their respective clubs

England’s midfield is full of exciting talents and by the time the World Cup is here in 2027, it could be one of the best in the world. Grace Clinton and Jess Park swapped clubs in Manchester during the summer and with both in their early 20’s England has a lot to be excited about. The duo could anchor Wiegman’s midfield in 2027 if their careers continue on an upward trajectory with both continuing to impress for club and country.

Of the more experienced contingent, both Keira Walsh and Georgia Stanway should still be around the setup. Walsh has featured for England 92 times and will be 30-years-old at the next World Cup. With it likely to be her final World Cup for the Lionesses in 2027, Walsh will have an added desire to be in the team.

Stanway has proved to be a reliable servant during her international career and although she hasn’t always started for the Lionesses, it is hard to imagine a team without her these days. Despite playing a deeper role, the Bayern Munich midfielder has proven her scoring abilities with 24 goals in 84 games for her country.

Another more experienced star who will be hard to leave out of the squad is Manchester United’s Ella Toone. At just 26-years-old Toone already has 65 appearances for England and she has racked up a remarkable scoring record. The United midfielder has 23 goals for her country and they always seem to come at the most crucial times. Toone scored two for the Lionesses at Euro 2025 as she became one of very few to win her second European Championship for England.

Chelsea’s Lola Brown is a much younger star who could also throw her hat into the ring for the England World Cup squad. Brown has been a superstar for England’s youth teams for the past year and at just 17-years-old she could be one for the future. The teenager has already been involved in Chelsea WSL matchdays and Sonia Bompastor certainly considers the midfielder to be an exciting talent.

England World Cup Attackers

Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly were two of England’s biggest heroes at Euro 2025

While she played a very small role at Euro 2025, Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones is one of three strikers who should be fighting to start for England in Brazil. The 22-year-old provided a sense of excitement off the bench in Switzerland and she announced herself on the international stage with a goal in the group stage. It is Beever-Jones’ start to the season with Chelsea that is catching the eye though and with four goals in her first four games the youngster is keeping the formidable Sam Kerr out of the starting XI for now.

Beever-Jones wasn’t the only English starlet to impress at the Euros, but Michelle Agyemang’s tournament was even more emphatic. With last-gasp goals in both the quarter and semi-final it is fair to say that the 17-year-old saved England on more than one occasion. Despite her emphatic rise to fame in the summer, Agyemang was once again loaned out by Arsenal this year.

Agyemang has been gaining valuable experience on loan with the Seagulls in the past two years, largely due to the unstoppable Alessia Russo. Arsenal and England’s starting striker has certainly earned her spot as the first name on any team’s team sheet. Russo won the golden boot with Arsenal last year and a tournament-saving goal in the Euro 2025 final makes it hard to drop the 26-year-old. It is definitely fair to say that Wiegman is spoiled for choice in the striker department.

Lauren James and Lauren Hemp could retain their spots on the wings at the World Cup. The duo provided an exciting threat throughout the Euros in Switzerland and with both still very young they could hold that position for at least another two years. Euro 2022 and 2025 superstar Chloe Kelly should fill out the remaining wide spot. Beth Mead may be left out by 2027, with the vastly experienced winger 34 when the tournament starts.
