England Women’s U-19s make winning start to final qualifying group

England opened their UEFA Women’s U-19 European Championship Qualifying Group A3 with victory against Switzerland.

Poppy Pritchard opened the scoring for England on 38 minutes, pouncing on a ball in behind to head past the onrushing Yasmine Ammar.

Lexi Potter extended the advantage just before the hour mark, turning in a cross from Louanne Worsey.

The Young Lionesses next face group hosts Portugal at 6pm on Saturday at Cidade do Futebol in Lisbon, before playing Italy on Tuesday 9 April at Real Sport Club in Queluz with a 3pm kick-off.

Republic of Ireland came from behind to beat Iceland 4-1 in Group A2. An own-goal brought them level before the hour, with Jodie Loughrey, Hannah Healy and Joy Ralph then scoring one each.

Wales defeated Lithuania 2-0 in Group B1, Tianna Teisar’s early penalty added to in the second half by Amy Richardson.

Northern Ireland were 5-0 winners over Georgia in Group B5, Rachel McIntyre scoring three goals in the opening 15 minutes.

Scotland thrashed Liechtenstein 10-0 in Group B2, Tiree Burchill and Lisa Forrest both hitting hat-tricks.
