Arsenal Women forward Jessie Gale is expected to join Newcastle United Women on loan next season, keeping her in WSL2 for a third straight campaign as she continues building senior experience away from the Emirates.
Jessie Gale Set for a Third Straight WSL2 Loan
Gale, 19, joined Arsenal’s academy from Charlton in January 2024 and has already won the FIFA Youth Cup with the club’s U21 side. She signed her first professional contract last summer.
Last season brought her senior breakthrough across two separate loan spells. She scored five goals in 15 appearances during the first half of the campaign at Portsmouth, before a move to promotion-chasing Bristol City for the second half produced three more goals and her first call-up to the England U23 squad.
A move to Newcastle would give Gale a third consecutive season in the second tier, this time at a club aiming to push for promotion.
Why Newcastle Makes Sense for Gale’s Development
Newcastle finished sixth in WSL2 last season under manager Tanya Oxtoby, and the club recently sold top striker Emily Murphy to Brighton, opening up a gap in attack that Gale could help fill.
She would also link up with Arsenal legend Jordan Nobbs, who joined Newcastle last year and could offer exactly the kind of experienced guidance a young forward benefits from during a loan spell.
Gale’s path into Arsenal’s first team remains blocked for now, with Alessia Russo, Stina Blackstenius, and new signing Selina Cerci all ahead of her in the pecking order. Michelle Agyemang’s return from a long-term ACL injury adds further competition once she’s back fit.
What Comes Next for Gale’s Loan Move
Nothing has been formally confirmed by either club yet, so the move remains a reported step rather than a done deal. Given Gale’s trajectory over the past year, a third loan season in WSL2 looks like a sensible next step in her development regardless of the final destination.
If it goes through, Newcastle will give Gale another chance to keep growing as a senior forward, with a proven track record of scoring goals at this level behind her already.
