Newcastle United manager Tanya Oxtoby has welcomed Swedish forward Emilia Larsson to the club – describing her as a “standout performer”.

The striker has joined the Magpies following the expiry of her contract with Damallsvenskan side FC Rosengard.

And in quotes circulated to the media, Oxtoby said: “Emilia is a player that adds quality to our attacking options having been a standout performer in Sweden for a number of years.

“She can score and create opportunities off both feet and brings pace to the forward line. She will bring valuable experience to our group, and we are looking forward to welcoming her to the club.”

For her part, Larsson added: “It’s an amazing feeling, I can’t wait to meet all the girls and get going.

“This is a big club with a lot of history, and they have something big going and I really want to be part of that journey.”

Emilia Larsson: her football career so far

Larsson spent three years with the 14-time league winners, making 135 appearances. In her time at Rosengard, she helped the team secure the 2024 Damallsvenskan title, winning 25 of their 26 games that season, while also spending six months playing alongside current Magpies forward Oona Sevenius.

Prior to joining Rosengard in January 2023, she spent four years with Hammarby, playing alongside Anna Tamminen.

She has also enjoyed spells at IFK Norrkoping and Linkopings, a club where she won two Svenska Cupens.

She is the latest international to be added to the Newcastle squad, following the most recent acquisition of Australian Kaitlyn Torpey.

The 27-year-old joins the club shortly after their exit from the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at the hands of West Ham United.

They are currently fourth in WSL2, three points behind third-placed Bristol City and equal on points with fifth-placed Crystal Palace. However, they have a game in hand on both of them.
