Delphine Cascarino and the San Diego Wave have mutually agreed to part ways, following speculation that she could be set to join the London City Lionesses.
Delphine Cascarino sends farewell message to San Diego fans
In a farewell message to San Diego Wave fans, French international Cascarino said she needed to move closer to home.
She said: “Since joining the Wave, every moment of my time in San Diego is something I will always cherish. Playing for this Club, this city, and in front of such a passionate fan base made this decision incredibly difficult.
“However, due to personal considerations, the next step in my career needs to be closer to home at this time.”
“I’m grateful to the Wave for their understanding and support, and I will always look back on my time in San Diego with pride and appreciation.”
The club’s sporting director and general manager, Camille Ashton, said the club had to treat Cacarino’s desire to return closer to home with “care and respect”.
Cascarino scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 34 appearances for the Wave. She played her last game for the Wave during the NWSL quarter-finals playoff defeat to Portland Thorns in November.

Could Cascarino join the London City Lionesses?
Cascarino could be on her way to the Women’s Super League, following confirmation of her San Diego exit.
It was reported last week that London City were closing in on Cascarino. The move would reunite the 28-year-old with London City owner Michele Kang.
Cascarino played for Kang’s Lyon side before moving to the San Diego Wave in 2024.
She would also join her twin sister Estelle in London. Her sister joined West Ham on loan from Italian giants Juventus.
Cascarino would bring plenty of experience to London City if she completes the move.
She won nine league titles and six Champions League trophies during her time with Lyon. She has also scored 16 goals in 86 appearances for the French national team.
Cascarino would mark a major new signing for recently appointed head coach Eder Maestre. The Spaniard replaced Jocelyn Precheur at the start of the month, despite his predecessor sitting inside the top half of the WSL table before the winter break.
Maestre picked up his first win as London City boss on Saturday, beating Sunderland 1-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
