#DanskeWomensPrem: Linfield begin title defence with narrow victory


Linfield began their defence of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership title with a narrow win over Sion Swifts.

Rebecca McKenna set up 18-year-old Abbie Magee for the only goal on 14 minutes, while Swifts’ Jamaican imternational goalkeeper Nicole McClure made a string of fine saves for the visitors.

Glentoran are the new campaign’s first leaders after hitting newcomers Comber Rec for six. Kellie Bailie struck a hat-trick for the east Belfast side, Rachel Rogan netted a brace and Demi Vance got the other goal.

Crusaders Strikers began with a 2-0 victory over Derry City, Julie Nelson and Danielle McDowell were both on target in a nine-minute spell before the break.

Cliftonville get their season underway on 24 April when hosting Comber Rec.

Meanwhile, the League Cup Quarter-final draw has been made, with ties to take place on Monday 29 April: Glentoran v Comber Rec, Linfield v Sion Swifts, Derry City v Crusaders Strikers. Bye: Cliftonville.
