The Northern Ireland Football League has announced that the rescheduled 2020 Danske Bank Women’s Premiership will kick off on 26 August.
Originally due to commence in April, the Women’s Premiership campaign had been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but will now return for the fifth season following a decision from the NIFL Women’s Premiership Management Committee on Monday evening,
The 2020 season will operate under a shortened schedule, with each of the six competing teams playing each other home and away to determine the champions.
NIFL Managing Director Andrew Johnston told nifootballleague.com: “We are delighted to support the desire of our women’s clubs in a return to competitive football despite the challenges of Covid-19.
“With the recent return of football, clubs have considered the current protocols and government guidance and are committed to exhausting all avenues to ensure a safe 2020 season can be maintained. By working together and with the support of other key stakeholders we are delighted to be planning another exciting campaign.”
Revised Women’s Premiership fixtures will be released on 31 July, while the Electric Ireland Women’s Academy League will also continue this Autumn.
