Derry City got their first point of the NIFL Danske Bank Women’s Premiership season on Wednesday 27 June, with a 1-1 draw at home to Sion Swifts.
In the local derby, Derry’s Rachel Barnaby had been denied by the crossbar but later broke the deadlock, with 3 minutes left of the first half. Aimee Mackin stretched to knock in the equalise for the Swifts in the 65th minute.
Linfield stayed top with a 3-0 victory over Glentoran and were ahead inside the half-hour, Megan Bell releasing Rebecca McKenna to cut in and slide the ball home. The lead was doubled shortly before the break, as a Kirsty McGuinness corner was met headed in at the back post by Alison Smyth. With 18 minutes to go, Smyth nodded down Chelsea Myles’ cross for Louise McDaniel to finish.
Crusaders Strikers are still a point behind the leaders after beating basement side Portadown 5-1. Morganne Beggs hit a hat-trick, Jamie-Lee Wilson and Nichoole Connolly adding a goal each.
