Crystal Palace close in on Barclays Women’s Championship leaders but Charlton Athletic are beaten at home by Reading.
Crystal Palace edged Sheffield United 1-0 at Selhurst Park, to go within a point of leaders Sunderland with a game still in hand.
Sheffield’s Izzy Goodwin could not turn the ball home after charging down an attempted clearance by Demi Lambourne, and after the break curled a shot wide from the edge of the box.
Molly Sharpe hit the crossbar for Palace during the first half and eventually got the winner with 17 minutes left, despite a double save by Fran Stenson.

Reading pulled of a 1-0 victory away to Charlton Athletic, which lifted them two places to eighth and five points clear of the relegation zone.
Royals’ keeper Emily Orman saved a first-half penalty from Kayleigh Barton and it got better before the break for Reading, as Charlie Wellings picked up a loose pass and netted from distance.
The Addicks’ Beth Roe had an effort blocked and with eight minutes left, Melissa Johnson was denied by Orman.
The result left Charlton four points behind the leaders with just the one game in hand now.
