#ContiCup: Villa victorious over Liverpool Women

Saturday’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup ties saw Aston Villa defeat Liverpool 2-0 and Chelsea win narrowly at Lewes.

Saturday 2 November

GROUP A: Aston Villa 2-0 Liverpool (Att: 355)

GROUP D: Lewes 1-2 Chelsea (Att: 1.018)

Villa down Liverpool 

Aston Villa vecame the second FAWC side to beat Liverpool in the Conti Cup this season, as goals by Emma Follis and Emily Syme went unanswered.

Follis gave Anke Preuss no chance with a fine finish just six minutes in and Syme came off the bench to double the advantage with 4 minutes to go.

For Liverpool, Kirsty Linnett was twice denied by Sian Rogers and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk did have the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside.

Chelsea leave it late

Chelsea made it three wins from as many group games but had to wait until 10 minutes from time for the winner in frnt of over 1,000 fans at Championship side Lewes.

Fran Kirby sent Erin Cuthbert through one-on-one with Faye Baker to open the scoring in the 12th minute but the rooks replied quickly, Katie Rood winning possession and curling a shot past Carly Telford.

Ramona Bachman saw her 20-yards strike tipped just over the crossbar by Faye Baker as Chelsea pushed for the winner. That eventually came from Magdalene Eriksson who finished after a double-save from Baker.
