Bristol City are the first side into the FA Women’s Continental League Cup semi-finals following a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, in which Ebony Salmon scored twice.
Benedicte Haaland replaced Sophie Baggaley in goal for the Robins following a positive Covid test for the first choice keeper, the Norwegian denying Silva with an outstretched leg from point blank range.
Mana Iwabuchi also went very close for Villa but her shot on goal was cleared off the line by Yana Daniels, another last-ditch stop saw Faye Bryson block Shania Hayles’ goal-bound effort.
But Charlie Wellings sent Salmon away to open the scoring on 55 minutes, then following Haaland’s goal kick the same pair combined to double the lead shortly after.
Stine Larsen came off the bench to head Villa back in the game from an Asmita Ale cross with four minutes to go but Salmon’s quickfire double proved enough.
RUTHLESS. 👊
