Manchester City’s Chloe Kelly sustained an ACL injury to her right knee in Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture.
After scoring a first-half brace against Birmingham City, Kelly then won a penalty after a challenge by Rebecca Holloway, which ended up in the England international being carried off on a stretcher.
Now confirmed as an anterior cruciate ligament injury, this will keep her out of the game for an extended period.
Kelly contributed ten goals and eleven assists to the Cityzens ongoing WSL title bid this season.
Kelly wrote on Twitter: ‘Speechless & gutted but grateful for all the support in my first season at this fantastic club. I know this won’t be easy but I am ready for the challenge ahead. I have the best people around to support me every single step of the way. I promise you I will come back stronger.’
