Shen Mengyu has signed a three-year contract with London City Lionesses following her departure from SWPL champions Celtic.
The 22-year-old made the China squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, making the starting line-up for a group-stage game.
Mengyu told londoncitylionesses.com: “I can feel everyone’s ambition – we all have a clear goal, which is to win promotion to the Women’s Super League.”
“I’m very proud to play for a team with this kind of ambition and believe that we will surprise everyone, with the support of Michele [Kang] and Jocelyn [Prêcheur].”
Head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur said: “Shen performed very well when she played in Scotland and showed lots of improvement from when I coached against her in Shanghai.
“She’s still very young and has a lot of technical skills – she can play as a No. 6 or a No. 8 and moves around a lot inside the midfield. She will provide a lot of energy and she already knows what it is like to play at a high level.”
