Chelsea will go into the final day as Barclays Women’s Super League leaders on goal-difference after a 1-0 victory away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Emma Hayes’ side Chelsea made the breakthrough in the 37th minute through Maika Hamano, who opened her account for the Blues having earlier put a diving header over the crossbar.

Catarina Macario set Guro Reiten away down the right and her low cross was turned in at the far post by Japan international Hamano.

Spurs had Amanda Nilden stretchered off before the break but soon after the restart they should have equalised, Luana Buhler’s shot was blocked and Ashleigh Neville could only knock the rebound over the bar.

Fran Kirby had a great chance to double the lead in the dying minutes but lifted her effort over the top.

Chelsea will start Saturday’s programme top by two on goal-difference from Manchester City, facing a trip to Manchester United while Gareth Taylor’s team are at Aston Villa.
