Republic of Ireland centre-back Niamh Fahey heads to France for a new challenge with top flight side Bordeaux.
Having joined Chelsea from Arsenal in 2014, she helped the Blues to the double in her first season and played in the first FA Women’s Cup final to be held at Wembley Stadium, where Notts County were defeated.
Although Fahey has gained 50 international caps for her native Ireland and was named in the 2016 WSL Team of the Year, she featured less prominently for Chelsea in their Spring Series triumph earlier this year.
Manager Emma Hayes said to chelseafc.com: ‘Niamh was superb for us from day one, she and Gilly [Flaherty] in centre-back partnership was a key factor behind our double in 2015.
‘A valued member of the group and a great character to be around, we would all like to wish Niamh the best of luck as she takes on this new challenge in France.’
