Charlton Athletic rose to third place in the Barclays Women’s Championship following a 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Addicks’ goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse rushed off her line to deny Georgia Walters when the forward was through on goal.

Gracie Pearse took down a Jodie Hutton corner to score at the back post for Charlton, before Whitehouse kept out a Walters strike from distance.

The hosts were two up by half time at the Valley, Hutton curling a free kick into the top corner.

Mary Bashford came off the bench and hit the visitors’ bar, then two minutes from time Gloria Siber played in Kayleigh Barton to slot home and make it 3-0.

Tyler Toland scored a stoppage-time consolation for Rovers, who remain two points above the relegation place with two matches in hand.

Charlton move within a point of London City but have played a game more than the Lionesses and are four points behind leaders Birmingham City.
